A Date With Destiny: New date confirmed for NZ T.Q. Midget Champs

Forget the chocolates and roses – February 14 is now the rescheduled date for the New Zealand Three-Quarter Midget Championship at Lucas Oil Auckland Speedway, following this weekend’s postponement.

Lucas Oil Auckland Speedway has confirmed that Speedway New Zealand has approved the new date, with the event now running as a one-day show utilising a nine-heat format.

Supporting categories will include the Auckland Midget Championship and the Auckland Quarter Midget Championship.

The originally scheduled two-day event was cancelled due to a severe weather system that had a widespread impact across the country.

A blockbuster entry list had been confirmed for the original date, which featured six South Island competitors, five from Christchurch and one from Greymouth.

Headlining the field was six-time New Zealand Champion Jeremy Webb, who is chasing a record-extending seventh title.

He faced stiff competition in a talent-laden field that included former 1NZ Aaron Humble, 2NZ Regan Tyler, 3NZ and former New Zealand Midget Champion Peter Hunnibell, reigning Grand Prix champion Dylan Cooke, and Tulsa Shootout competitor Kayden Barker, among others.

With the event still three weeks away, a revised entry list is yet to be confirmed. However, Greymouth’s Kohen Thompson has indicated via social media this evening that he intends to compete.

As the meeting falls outside the 14-day postponement window, all competitors wishing to race will be required to re-register.
